Nant Y Coy Watermill - Cafe, Farm Shop, Gallery, Arts, Crafts, Nature Trail, Water Wheel, Western Cleddau River Game Fishing; Treffgarne, Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire, West Wales. Heritage.

It is believed that there has been a grain mill at Nant-y-Coy since 1332 but little is known about the first 500 years of its life.

As part of the Treffgarne Hall estate, the mill was owned by the Evans family for many years, certainly from the early 19th century. They were responsible for the substantial refurbishment which was done in 1884. Their restoration included the installation of the current waterwheel, shafting and gearing, the earlier mechanism having been beyond repair.

Eventually there were no heirs and the estate passed out of the family.

In 1920, the mill was separated from the estate and sold to Walter Eynon as an individual property of some 14 acres.

Laurence Higgon of Scolton Manor purchased Nant-y-Coy in 1928. During the initial period of his ownership it was operated by tenants as part of a working farm. Grain milling ended in the early 1950s but the farming continued.

The Higgon family sold the mill to Sarah Edwards in 1958. Again, the land was farmed by tenants.

The property was bought by the Wilson family in 1971 and ceased to be a working farm. Much refurbishment work was carried out by them and the mill became a crafts centre.

The current owner, Margaret Merritt, took over the mill in 2005 and continues with the renovation.
