I learned to observe the mathematical and logical structures of
plants when I trained with Anne Marie Evans MA FLS - the world-famous
artist who originally developed the English Gardening School's
Diploma Course in Botanical Painting.
I found that the shapes of the parts and their relationship with
each other fascinated me and I became intrigued by the abstract
nature of what I
saw.
The need to explore these structures in a creative and expressive
way
has led to a form of liberation.
When I work, I now start with a fixed idea or project in mind
but find myself moving off in directions that surprise me.
This leads to challenging situations that reveal new ideas.
These ideas take on a life of their own - investing my creative
energy with fresh vitality. |
