| Anne Rees, Textile
Artist
Anne was born in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, the heart of the
textile industry, to which her family had strong links. Fabrics
and threads surrounded her as a child ,and were a constant source
of inspiration to her, as is the sense of place in Pembrokeshire
where she now lives. The richness of both the natural world and
man made architectural forms underpin the more ephemeral elements
given by mood, emotion and especially by her love of music. Many
of her works explore the themes of growth and decay.
Using a diverse range of mixed media from her own hand made silk
paper, found and recycled objects and precious fabrics, the list
is endless. Anne creates her work in her own unique style which
she has developed and is ever changing. She recently followed
an HND course in Carmarthen College of Art, and feels privileged
to have made a short television programme with the BBC; just one
of a series of ten programmes titled ‘Beautiful Things’
in which she promotes embroidery and the embroiderers guild.
