| Linda Carr - Textile
Artist.
Linda's Indian roots and culture are an integral part of her work.
Born in India, her formative years were spent in a rich, diverse
environment in the Midlands, full of eastern culture with many
functional and decorative techniques being passed on to her.
Linda displays a distinctly eastern quality in her work and her
individual sense of colour and pattern are transferred as a richly
decorative technique allowing her pencil / brush / needle to travel
in a reflective, meditative way, sometimes producing unpredictable
results.
Linda uses whatever materials are at hand, indeed, this making
something out of nothing using an idea or design she will also
attribute to her background. Amongst her materials are paper /
paints / threads / plaster / found objects and dyes. Her work
has sold extensively and recent chosen themes that have influenced
her work include the local environment, travel memories and objects
that surround her.
Linda combines her work with teaching young children. She finds
the undefiled art and innocent outlook of the young child a refreshing,
positive influence on her life.
She developed the Textiles/Collage part of the Art National Curriculum
for Dyfed primary schools, leading Inset workshops for practising
teachers. She was involved in developing art resource materials
of Welsh artists/craftsmen distributed for use in primary schools.
Practical work with primary aged children led to art projects
displayed in Wales and Europe.
She is a member of the Embroiderer’s Guild and has featured
in the BBC production ”Beautiful Things” and exhibits
throughout west Wales and beyond.
